Canyon House

Clerkenwell

Canyon House creatively amalgamates two stacked warehouse apartments into a unified, expansive living space. A towering seven-meter-high storage wall serves as a visual connector between the two levels, seamlessly merging disparate spaces into a singular, flowing expanse. The flexibility in design treats bedrooms and living spaces with equal consideration, transforming the home into a dynamic setting that can be adapted to include three bedrooms and a large living area or multiple living spaces.

A glazed, mirrored slot constructs a visually impactful corridor at the forefront of the layout, cultivating an airy and spacious journey throughout the home. This clever design element subverts conventional enclosed circulation spaces, bringing them to the forefront as central focal points. The strategic placement of the storage wall and slot ensures fluidity, cleverly partitioning the floor plan into primary and secondary areas, such as bathrooms, entryways, and a linear stairwell. The living spaces bask in the soft glow of evening sun, courtesy of the expansive north-west facing windows.

Light / The Canyon

Canyon House introduces a grand, glazed, and mirrored hallway that enhances the sense of spaciousness, creating a luminous experience as you traverse the home. This innovative design feature challenges traditional enclosed circulation spaces, transforming them into stunning focal points. A unifying element within this design is a 7m-high storage wall, which integrates the two formerly separate flats into one cohesive space.

The soft, diffused light from the north-facing windows is amplified by stainless steel cladding and white joinery, casting light deeper into the home and enhancing its bright, airy ambiance. This illumination extends into the internal corridors, achieved through strategic use of mirrors and a glazed floor panel. The transparent floor panel not only ushers daylight into the core of the home but also cultivates a sense of double-height space.

This sensation of extended verticality is further perpetuated at both ends of the glazed floor through the clever installation of ceiling mirrors, amplifying the home's expansiveness and depth.

Craft / Lacquer and Stainless Steel

The meticulously designed joinery in the Canyon House showcases a spray lacquered finish augmented by stainless steel channels. These channels serve as shadow gaps between panels, reflecting light in a captivating way. Integrated flush lights and concealed overhead lights ensure abundant adjustable lighting as needed, contributing to the overall serene atmosphere of the house.
