The Island Home is a remarkable penthouse featuring a massive stainless steel kitchen 'island' that serves as a visual and functional connector between two levels through a glazed floor, enhancing the spatial experience in the apartment.
The conventional separation between the bedroom and the kitchen/living area is innovatively addressed with a glass screen incorporated into the central island. A state-of-the-art feature allows the glass to turn translucent at the push of a button, offering instant privacy when desired.
Internally, the apartment's perimeter walls are lined with white lacquered panels. Alongside the stainless steel elements, these reflective surfaces amplify the light and visually expand the space. High-quality Douglas fir floorboards add warmth and a touch of color, making the space more welcoming.
Additionally, a new, tall window was installed in the bedroom to enhance the view of Hoxton Square while boosting the quality of natural light entering the room. This seamless blend of design elements makes Island Home a true epitome of modern, urban living.
Light / Transparent to Opaque Glass
Island Home redefines conventional space boundaries by using an electro-chromatic glass screen as part of the central island, seamlessly connecting the bedroom and kitchen/living area. With a simple switch, this smart glass turns translucent, offering privacy when needed. The home's design embraces flexibility, as the views to the windows can be adjusted for privacy. When transparent, the screen allows abundant light to fill the living space, and the extended view effectively doubles the perceived size of the home.

Island Home utilizes crisp, reflective materials to create an expansive atmosphere within the penthouse. An elegant, centrally located, double-height 'island' incorporates multiple functions such as stairs, a wine rack, a bathroom, and a kitchen. This 'island' employs a glazed floor to visually connect the two levels of the home, contributing to an enhanced sense of space. The use of stainless steel elements in the 'island' further amplifies light and creates a visual impression of a larger apartment.
